As a lash artist, you've seen all the tools you can use to house your glue drops, from glue rings to blossom cups, palettes, stones, and plain old tape. Why so many options? What's the difference? What's best to use?
Product: Glue Rings
Best Suited For: Classics and Handmades
Glue rings are a long-standing favourite in the lash extension industry, having been around since the start of the industry. Typically made from plastic, they feature an adjustable band that can be customized to fit any finger comfortably.
The top of the ring offers a variety of options, from wide to narrow and from cylinder to split or non-split. It's all about your personal preference and what works best for you, respecting your unique style and technique. They are disposable and come in packs of 100.
Product: Blossom Rings
Best Suited For: Handmade Fans
Another variation of glue rings is the 'blossom' form. These rings have smaller glue sections in the middle and indented tunnels around the rim. The tunnels are designed to compress the fan base while fanning the strands, making them ideal for hand makers.
Product: Glue Palette
Best Suited For: Classics and Handmades
If you're an over pourer, this product is for you—it has perfectly sized teardrop pockets for your glue dots, so you know exactly when to stop pouring. Remember, when changing the glue dot, it's crucial to cure the old glue dot entirely before using the next direct hole or use a spot on the opposite side, as old glue fumes will cure new glue dots. Also, if you tap off before placement, you'll need a place to do so. This is why we don't recommend it for use with premades, as there are better options.
Product: Stone Bettys Favourite.
Best Suited For: Premades
Stones are very popular among artists because their naturally cooling surface prolongs the life of a glue dot. Stones are available in various colours and sizes. Never apply glue directly to the stone. First, place a glue sticker or a piece of paper tape to house your glue dot, then tap the base before applying.
10 Top Tips for Using Your Lash Extension Adhesive.
1- Always shake the bottle well. The best method is to use a glue shaker, but a good long handshake will also do the job.
2- Never have old glue dots near new ones, as this will cure the new dot faster.
3- Never tap off on your client's eye pads, as this will increase sensitivity and chemical exposure.
4- Never house your glue and bonder close to each other because the bonder will quicker the glue.
5- Always change your glue dot before it is too late; don't wait for the strings, change it every 15-20 mins.
6- Read the adhesive, and follow the humidity and temperature levels to get the best results.
7- Always use less glue; too much glue will cause stickies.
8- If all your clients come back with lots of glue dots then start tapping the base before placement. You'll see a huge difference.
9- Always burp your glue. When pouring your adhesive, the air is sucked in, which will cure the adhesive inside the bottle. Burping it and cleaning the nozzle keeps your adhesive going for the whole time it's meant to.
10- If you can't read the ingredients don't use the products. If something happens to your client, you'll be liable. Always opt for using a brand that is government registered with AICIS (Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme).
