Lash Extension myths and facts
Are you looking to get lash extensions and worried because someone knows someone who told them horror stories about lash extensions they once got? Here, we will debunk all the myths and tell you everything you need to know before getting your lashes done.
Myth 1: Lash extensions damage your natural lashes.
This is the biggest myth we hear, and it’s certainly not true. If lashes are applied correctly, they WILL NOT cause damage and if you follow the simple care instructions, they will not last even longer.
Tip: Make sure you go to a qualified lash artist with a great reputation. If a nail salon advertises lash extensions for a very cheap price, there is a reason why. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
A qualified lash artist will apply lashes correctly and maintain the integrity of your natural lashes.
Myth 2: I can’t have Lash extensions because I wear glasses.
Lash extensions are tailored to your eye shape and specific needs. If you wear glasses, you can opt for a lash style that curls up more like a D curl and don’t have them too long.
Myth 3: Lash extensions require extra maintenance
Once applied, lash extensions last from 2-4 weeks. After this, you must go in for regular infills to maintain them. That’s it. You don’t ever need to buy another mascara again!
Myth 4: I can’t wet my eyes when I get lash extensions
You can definitely go about your everyday routine, including washing your face, showering, and even swimming! We even recommend washing your lashes with a lash shampoo to keep them clean and fluffy. Years ago, you weren’t able to get your extensions for the first 24 hours, but now there are Lash Bonders on the market, which are applied in the salon and allow you to walk straight out and get them wet immediately.
Myth 5: Lashes are painful and cause discomfort
When eyelash extensions are applied correctly, they should not cause any discomfort. Each extension is carefully attached to each individual natural lash using a specifically formulated lash adhesive. The process is meticulous and tailored to your needs. Once applied, they should feel lightweight and seamless.
Myth 6: The glue is going to give me an allergic reaction
Allergic reactions are very rare. Depending on the symptoms, allergic reactions are usually associated with swelling, itchiness, and burning.
It could be the adhesive setting off hay fever if you have sensitivity, like watery eyes. You could try taking an antihistamine before your appointment. (If your health conditions permit it)
Again, make sure you go to a reputable lash artist who uses trusted quality products. You don’t want to apply just anything to your eyes!
Myth 7: My own lashes are going to fall out
Just like the hair on your head, eyelashes have a life cycle as long as you continue to eat healthy and care for your body, skin, hair, etc. The eyelash extensions glued to your eyelashes will not interrupt the natural lifecycle of your natural lashes; in fact, the extensions will grow out and fall out naturally, just like your eyelashes do.
Some weeks, you will notice a greater fallout than others. This is called ‘shedding’ and is a very normal part of your eyelash re-growth cycle.
Myth 8: I can’t wear makeup with lash extensions on
Of course you can! Having lash extensions certainly has its perks, like they make you look glammed up without being glammed up. But if you need the face beat too, then go for it, Sis. You only need to clean them with a lash shampoo before bed!
Myth 9: Washing my eyelash extensions will cause my eyelashes to fall out quicker
Nasty!! You MUST wash your lashes to keep them clean and your natural lashes healthy.
Tips to remember:
- Go to someone recommended or check out their work on Instagram.
- If they’re cheap they’ll look cheap too.
- Cleaning your lashes protects your natural lashes.
- Brushing your lashes, keeps them in place.
- One lash style doesn’t suit everyone; your lash artist should complete a client consultant to determine and achieve your overall look and style.
